Rheumatologist
Meet our most experienced and compassionate staff who are ready to help you achieve optimal health.
Dr. Klaus is passionate about bringing high-quality patient care to his newest rheumatology clinic in Lutz, near Westley Chapel, Florida. This private clinic was carefully designed to holistically address the needs of adults with inflammatory joint and rheumatic autoimmune diseases. Dr. Klaus honors the individual patient and provides a non-rushed focus on careful history taking, proper diagnosis, patient education, informed consent, and honest medicine free from big pharma conflicts of interest to provide superior, individualized care plans focused on your care needs and functional improvement. Ultimately, Dr. Klaus treasures coming alongside patients and, in the spirit of shared decision-making, forge a path toward getting patients moving and back to the activities they love. With more than 24 years of medical experience and specialty knowledge spanning General Internal Medicine and, for the past 11 years, Rheumatology, Dr.Klaus can draw on a wide range of International and North American education and experiences to assist rheumatological patients. He studied at the University of Stellenbosch, obtaining the six-year M.B.Ch.B, Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor in Surgery degree in 2000. He completed two years of Internship and Community Service training in Bethlehem, Free State, South Africa. After that, he moved to Fort. St. John, BC, Canada. Dr. Klaus served four years as a full-time rural Family Practitioner in private practice while working in the medical/surgical, OR, maternity ward, and busy ER department. He completed the Canadian Evaluating Exam of the Medical Council of Canada (2003), the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCCI) (2004), and LMCCII (2005). However, his growing interest in internal medicine caused him to return to South Africa, where he was privileged to study internal medicine at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa. This sparked an interest in rheumatology, and Dr. Klaus returned to Canada and studied in Halifax in the maritime province of Nova Scotia. Dr. Klaus completed his Residency in Adult Rheumatology at Dalhousie University and obtained The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Internal Medicine (2012) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Adult Rheumatology (2013). He opened a private practice in British Columbia, where he initially worked in internal medicine in the ICU and medical wards. Still, he later dedicated his attention to opening a new rheumatology clinic in Chilliwack in the Eastern Fraser Valley. Dr. Klaus worked as a solo adult rheumatologist for eight years and served a large clinic of patients with autoimmune, inflammatory, and arthritic conditions. Dr. Klaus completed his American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) (2021), followed by the USMLE United States Medical Licensing Examinations (2022) and Special Purpose Examination (SPEX) Federation of State Medical Boards (2022). He moved to Palm Harbor, Florida, in late 2022 where he lives out his calling as a rheumatologist. In his free time, you will find him cheering on his daughters in track & field or cross country (often as a water-carrying dad on a bike in the Florida heat), walking along an ocean with his wife and best companion, or trying to perfect a South African braai or German Spätzle recipe!
